Mohe County in Heilongjiang Province is a border county in northeastern China, facing Russia’s Chita and Amur Oblasts across the river, with a 242-kilometer-long border. At the foot of the snow-capped mountains at the northern edge of the Greater Khingan Range, on the southern bank of the upper reaches of the Heilongjiang River, Mohe County’s Beiji Village marks China’s northernmost point. A border‑guard outpost has been permanently stationed here, earning it the nickname “Arctic Outpost.” Taking advantage of the 10th National Mohe Off‑Road Rally held in Beiji Village, a delegation from the Daqing Yinhang Petrochemical Racing Committee braved biting winds and bumpy roads to reach the Arctic Outpost on the Sino‑Russian border along the Heilongjiang River, where they paid their respects to the officers and soldiers guarding the nation’s northernmost frontier and witnessed firsthand the extraordinary hardships of life along the border. On the banks of the Heilongjiang River, the outpost’s watchtower and the bright red Five-Star Flag in the square stand out vividly. Border defense officers and soldiers maintain round-the-clock shifts, vigilantly on duty. Stationed year after year in the snow‑bound frontier, they safeguard the peace of our motherland; their dedication to border defense is a truly precious expression of patriotic devotion. At the lofty border posts, they keep company with the white snow; amid the vast forests, they find solace in solitude. Upon learning of our arrival, the company commander came out early to greet us. On behalf of all employees of Yinhang Petrochemical, we extended our highest respect to the soldiers stationed at the outpost and presented them with care packages—demonstrating the deep bond between the people of Yinhang and the sons and daughters of the military. The soldiers’ warm, honest smiles and sincere hospitality made us feel an overwhelming sense of warmth, even in the bitter cold of minus thirty degrees Celsius. During our visit to the outpost, we happened to meet a reporter from the PLA Daily, who expressed great admiration for Yinhang Petrochemical’s efforts to support and cherish the armed forces, and we posed together for a commemorative photo. At the Arctic outpost, when everyone beholds the eight gilded characters on the wall—“The Interests of the Motherland Above All”—each person feels, deep in their heart, the dignity of the nation and the greatness of the soldiers. And as they climb to the top of the outpost’s watchtower, they truly experience the supreme honor of defending the motherland. Remembering the source of our sustenance, we are all the more eager to do whatever we can for the border defense officers and soldiers, working together to build and nurture a harmonious society. Moving forward, we will reach out to even more frontline border outposts, ensuring that more border guards feel the care and concern of the guiding organization, while also shouldering the responsibility and duty to contribute to the development of a “harmonious border defense.” (Text by Ma Jing) |
