Abstract
Many people judge a car’s quality by how quickly it accelerates, how much space it offers, how luxurious its interior is, or how well its suspension performs. But in reality, what really matters is not just speed—it’s stability. And by “stability,” I mean being able to stop when you need to.
So today, let’s talk about brake system maintenance—something that often doesn’t get much attention. Routine brake system maintenance can generally be divided into three parts:
We won’t go into detail about the first two; today’s car owners are generally familiar with the service intervals and schedules for tires and brake pads. Today, we’ll focus on something often overlooked yet critical to the vehicle’s braking system: brake fluid—the “lifeblood” of your brakes!
Most brake fluids currently available on the market are synthetic. If you opt for a brake fluid that is excessively inexpensive, you should be cautious about its quality. Synthetic brake fluids involve complex manufacturing processes and high technical requirements, making them inherently safer products.
Synthetic brake fluid has the following key performance indicators, which you should pay particular attention to when making your selection:
However, for brake fluid to ensure safe operation, it must have a high boiling point and resist vaporization at elevated temperatures; otherwise, air pockets can form in the brake lines, leading to brake system failure. The longer your vehicle is in use, the more moisture it absorbs, and the greater the drop in its boiling point.
Automotive brake fluid is used in hydraulic braking and clutch systems. When subjected to pressure, the fluid rapidly and evenly transmits that pressure throughout the system; hydraulic braking operates on this very principle.
In recent years, with the development of China’s automotive industry and the growing number of imported vehicles, the requirements for brake fluids have become increasingly stringent. The quality of brake fluid directly affects driving safety. Both domestically and internationally, brake fluids are given high priority and are regarded as critical safety‑related fluids.
Of course, one should not assume that foreign products are necessarily superior. The key technical specifications and test methods of the national standard have already reached international levels; the performance indicators of HZY3 and HZY4 are comparable to the widely adopted DOT 3 and DOT 4 standards, offering excellent resistance to vapor lock at high temperatures as well as outstanding low-temperature performance.
Maintaining a vehicle’s braking system is a matter of utmost importance, as it directly affects safety. Periodically opening the hood to check the levels of various fluids is an essential part of routine car maintenance. Under normal conditions, brake fluid should be replaced after one to two years of use or every 40,000 to 60,000 kilometers. (In the next installment, we’ll cover the proper method for changing brake fluid.)
Here are three simple methods to help you assess the quality of brake fluid. Although these are DIY techniques, they can still give you a rough idea of whether the fluid is good or bad.
Ling Hang has launched the all-new, upgraded DOT4 PLUS brake fluid—featuring a completely new formulation and enhanced performance. Its dry boiling point reaches 270°C (standard: 230°C), while its wet boiling point is no lower than 170°C (standard: 155°C), with performance metrics that far exceed international standards. The borate ester content of DOT4 PLUS exceeds 50%, and its key specifications are close to those of DOT5.1—the standard used in racing.
Superb performance to match your beloved car, Tu Huan!
